Principal Report
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Spring Fair! It was truly wonderful to see so many of our families and community members gathered together to celebrate and strengthen our IPS community.
In line with the DECYP priority on fostering connection, events like the Spring Fair are a powerful reminder of the impact of building a strong, engaged school community. Connection isn’t just a guiding principle for us; it’s the foundation that supports our students’ learning, growth, and well-being.
We’d like to extend a special thanks to the Illawarra Primary School Association (IPSA) for their dedication and hard work in organising this fantastic event. It takes countless hours of planning and a lot of hands-on effort to create an experience like this, and we’re so grateful for their commitment to our school. Special thanks to Lisa – our IPSA Chair!
We’re also grateful for the support of all our families – from those who helped with stalls and volunteered their time, to those who contributed through donations. The money raised – over $10,000 - will go toward resurfacing our school courts, creating a safer, more vibrant space where our students can connect, play, and learn together.
Thank you once again to everyone involved for your contributions, your time, and most importantly, your presence. Together, we’re making Illawarra Primary School a place where connection, community, and learning can thrive.

Marimba Mania
On Friday 1 November our 5/6 Illawarra Primary Marimba Group participated in Marimba Mania.
Our students joined around 300 other students, from 16 schools around Hobart to perform at the Kingston Hub.
The students performed 10 pieces to an audience of community members, family and friends.
The sound produced by over 300 students on marimbas, xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels was amazing and our Illawarra students performed beautifully.
Thanks to parents and friends who came to watch this event.

Grade 3/4 Basketball
Last weekend Illawarra Primary entered two basketball teams in the Basketball Tasmania Grade 3/4 Primary School Tournament.
The Grade 3 boys team displayed great resilience against some tough opposition and they took on each game with great enthusiasm. Congratulations Henry, Lewis, Seb, Jayden, Harry, Albie & Pascal for a terrific team effort.
The Grade 3/4 boys team successfully placed 4th in their division with the result of their two finals games coming down to the last few seconds. It was very exciting! Congratulations Noah, Orlando, Liam, Maximus, Bailey & Zander on your well earned 4th placing!
Thank you to Mr Iles for providing the basketball tops and to all the parents who helped coach, umpire, score and cheer on the boys!

Huon & Channel Athletics
Last Friday we took a team of 50 students to Huonville for the Huon Channel Athletics Carnival. Unfortunately, there were some serious traffic delays which set the carnival start time back and we never really managed to catch up. We were finished off by a particularly nasty squall of rain which had everyone running for cover. The decision was made to call the day off just after 1:00pm. Apologies to those who didn’t get an event done, it wasn’t the way we wanted to finish the athletics year!! We had some great performances in the races that were run. Well done to those who did their best in the 100’s & 1500’s.
Thanks to the parents who came to support and help construct our rain/wind break which kept most of us dry during the showers.
A reminder that next year our carnivals will be switching around both for Illawarra and Huon Channel meaning that our Athletics carnival will be in Term 1 and our Swimming Carnival will be in Term 4 after our SWSP at the end of Term 3.

Girls Gala Cricket Day
On Tuesday the 19 November a group of keen Grade 4 – 6 girls will be heading to the Twin Ovals to participate in a Girls Gala Cricket Day organised for Huon Channel Schools by High Performance Cricket. It should be a great day where we will participate in a number of games against other H & C Schools. There are a couple of spots left so if there are any girls who are interested and have missed out on a permission form they can see Mr Iles on Friday.
Triathlon
It’s not far away!! The packs have arrived, and we will have a meeting next week to make sure all teams are still OK, make any necessary changes, go through how the day and events work and give out race numbers and kit bags. Please remember there is NO school bus to this event, students need to have their own transport to and from the event. Supervision will be provided from 7:30AM onwards at the Illawarra Marquee so you can sign your child in and then depart when you need to. Also, students must be signed out. Please advise Mr Iles or Mr Waugh if your child is travelling with another parent. Bikes must be racked before events start. Traffic can be a nightmare so parking a distance away and walking can sometimes be the best way to go if you arrive after 8:30AM.
