Principal Report
As we near the end of Term 3, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the past few months and look ahead to a busy and productive Term 4.
We are excited to invite you to our Open Afternoon, which will be held this coming Wednesday. This will be a wonderful opportunity for families and community members to explore the school and see the fantastic work our students have been doing. We hope to see you all there!
I am also pleased to share that our students have achieved outstanding results in the Australian Mathematics Competition. This is a tremendous achievement, and I am incredibly proud of the effort and dedication our students have shown. Well done to all participants!
This term, we faced our fair share of wet weather, which challenged us all to demonstrate resilience. It has been heartening to see our students remain positive and adaptable, making the most of indoor playtimes respecting the challenges of unpredictable weather.
Looking ahead to Term 4, there will be a few changes to our staffing. I am pleased to announce that Ms. Renee Jordan has been appointed as a full-time Support Teacher at Illawarra Primary School. Renee’s last day with her Year 3 class will be Friday, 27th September, the final day of Term 3. To ensure continuity in the Year 3 learning program, Ms. Jocelyn Hansson will be taking over Renee’s Friday teaching duties. Jocelyn currently teaches the other Year 3 class one day a week and will be working closely with Renee to ensure a thorough handover.
To ensure continuity in the Prep learning program, Mrs. Beck Copeland will take over Jocelyn’s Friday teaching duties in Prep. Jocelyn will continue to teach Prep on Thursdays for the remainder of the year, although she will be on leave for a few weeks midterm. During this time, Mrs. Copeland will be teaching full-time in Prep.
We are confident that these adjustments will allow for a smooth transition and continued high-quality learning experiences for all students.
Don’t forget, if you have a child born in 2020 and wish to enrol them at Illawarra Primary for Kindergarten in 2025, we need you to pop into the office and complete the necessary forms to confirm your intention.
Thank you all for your ongoing support throughout Term 3, and I look forward to an exciting and productive Term 4.
Warm regards,
Kristy Hay
Principal

3A Big Buddies in Action!
In Grade 3A students have embraced their role as big buddies to the Kinder Possums this year.
Once a month, we visit the kindergarten to share stories and engage in meaningful learning experiences with our younger buddies.
Most recently, the Grade 3s assisted the Kinders in writing and illustrating letters to Mrs. Hay, kindly requesting new climbing equipment for the kinder playground.
Grade 3A take pride in being role models, demonstrating leadership and community spirit.
Check out the photos of our wonderful big buddies in action!

Futsal Tasmanian Schools Championship
Following their success in the Hobart School Futsal Titles in May, the two U10 Illawarra Primary School teams were invited to take on their northern counterparts in the ‘Champion of Champions’ Tasmanian School Futsal Titles on Tuesday 10th September in Hobart.
Teams consisted of:
Red: Gus O, Max R, Elliot J, Liam E, Jake K, Orlando P & Oliver P Coached by Graeme Ogier
Black: Harlie C, Jack G, Harry V, Ethan M, Noah M, Henry K & Bailey R Coached by Dan Garrozo
The first game of the day saw a replay of the previous Grand Final with the two Illawarra teams again going head-to-head. In a very close competition, Illawarra Black won this first game 2:1, with both teams then going on to face the northern teams. After two more games both Illawarra teams had won 1 game and lost 2, causing the draw for the finals to come down to goal difference.
The finals for 1st/2nd saw Illawarra Red vs St Thomas Moore and for 3rd/4th Illawarra Black vs Hagley. Having previously lost to these teams in earlier rounds the Illawarra boys were excited for a second chance. In true Illawarra spirit, the boys teams cheered each other on, with both teams being victorious in their relevant finals, Illawarra Black taking 3rd place and Red taking home the ‘Champion of Champions’ plaque.
The boys did themselves, the school and their parents proud with their comradery and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Many thanks to; Emily Ogier and Warren Iles for organising and registering the teams; both Coaches, Graeme Ogier and Dan Garrozo for supporting and helping the boys on and off the court and all the parents and grandparents that were able to help transport and support the boys on the day.

Jumping Jacks Day Tour
Last week, the Jumping Jacks embarked on their first tour of the year, visiting Cygnet Primary, Snug Primary, and Kingston High School. It was a heart-warming opportunity to reconnect with students who had been part of the team in previous years.
The team's hard work and dedication at training paid off with some truly spectacular skipping displays, including triple under, push-ups in a long rope, double dutch and more. We couldn't be prouder of the team's achievements.
The team was lucky enough to have the privilege to travel in one the Wisby's buses driven by Mr Squires, who not only ensured we were at our destination on time but also provided a comfortable and safe journey. We are truly grateful for their donation of the bus and driver for the day.
Next week, the team will travel to Launceston and visit five schools.
It's been a busy term for the team!

Toilet Changes
Over the last few weeks we have been busy reorganising toileting facilities for parents and visitors to our school, including relocating change tables and creating new door signage.
The purpose for these changes is to ensure that our parent community have adequate facilities to use for themselves or younger children both before school, after school or during whole school events in the evenings.
This will ensure that students at Illawarra Primary feel safe to use their allocated student toilet blocks throughout the day, including any outside hours events.
These changes have been communicated to your child through their classroom teacher, however, please feel free to speak to a member of IPS staff if you require further clarification.
Thanks for your support.
