Principal Report
Dear Families,
Teachers will soon begin the process of planning classes for 2025. If your child will be moving schools for 2025, kindly inform us in writing by the end of this term. My email address is kristy.hay@decyp.tas.gov.au .
If you have any educational considerations or information regarding your child’s learning needs that you would like to be taken into consideration during the class placement process, please contact me directly. This may then be followed by a discussion with senior staff.
Written requests must be submitted by Friday, 29th September to be considered. Due to the complexity of class placements, requests cannot be accepted after this date.
Please note that even if you have discussed your child’s placement with their current teacher, it is essential to submit a written request to me to ensure it is properly considered.
Please understand, that while we will do our best to accommodate your requests, there is no guarantee of specific student placements, as many factors contribute to these decisions and every child is considered carefully.
In 2025, as previously announced we will be facilitating two, three-day a week Kinder classes. I can now confirm the days as follows:
Kinder 1 - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Kinder 2 – Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
If you have a child enrolled in Kindergarten at IPS for 2025 you will receive a letter in Term 4 detailing the days your child will be invited to attend Kinder in 2025.
Please note, all class teachers and class lists, will not be finalised until the end of Term 4.
Kind regards,
Kristy Hay
Principal

1 B/H News
In 1 B/H, we have been learning about patterns in maths. We are learning how to identify, create, label and continue patterns using shapes, colours and numbers.
We also had fun during our recent craft activity making “Dad Rock’s” for Father’s Day.

1R News
In Science we have been learning about push and pull forces. We made car launchers. This is what we used: shoe boxes, rubber bands, paper clips, matchbox cars, textas. We figured out the further we pull it back, the further it goes. We measured how far they went with our hand spans.

Today we made some car launchers and when we lunched them, they went far. We launched them a couple of times and we made lists of how far they went and they went very far!
By Harry
In Science we have been measuring push and pull and we made some car launchers. We needed a shoe box, rubber bands, 2 paper clips and a match box car. We put 1, 2, 3 on the car launchers and the matchbox car went really far if we pulled it back to 3. We were measuring it with hand spans.
By Stella
In Science we made a car launcher. It can shoot cars to the moon! It is made out of cardboard, toy cars and rubber bands. If we put the car launcher to level one, it will make a weak force. If we put it to level two, it would go pretty far. If we put it to level three, it would go to the moon!

2B News
In 2B, we enjoy teaming up with our neighbours in 3A for some creative literacy activities. This week, we have been working on some magical story writing together. We have also enjoyed activities like shared reading, guided drawing and board games together.

2H News
In Science, 2H have been investigating materials. We used the recent weather (and resulting puddles!) to experiment with boats made from some of these different materials. Foil, clingwrap, paper towel, baking paper and writing paper boats were all tested… and our predictions were confirmed!

Grade 6 Come & Try Day
Last week our Grade 6’s had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities as part of the Huon Channel School Sports Association annual Come and Try Day. The aim of the day is to expose students from a range of schools in our region to a number of activities which they may not have the opportunity to do as part of their regular school program. Students had a go at Pickleball, Badminton, Orienteering, Judo, Bike Riding, Table Tennis Indoor Cricket and Badminton as well as some opting to participate the Huon Channel Volleyball Tournament.
Despite the really difficult outdoor conditions which unfortunately caused a few sessions to have to be cancelled due to the winds really picking up, students had a great day and activity providers all commented on the positive attitudes of our students. Thanks to Mr Bloor and Miss Catterall who supervised our two groups as well as Pete & Liesl for providing assistance all day.

We had 5 teams in the Volleyball which was great to see. After a morning of 4 matches, teams were regraded for another 4 matches across 4 courts, with each court then having a champion team. One of our teams was successful going unbeaten!! Well done Dan W, Ollie B, Ollie C, Koa D & Charlie G.

Spare Clothes
Can everyone please ensure that there young person has a spare change of clothes in there school bag.
