Principal Report
Dear Families,
As the year wraps up with three weeks to go, many classes have enjoyed end of year excursions, teachers are finalising assessments for reports and Grade 6 students go to high school orientation days.
Staffing and class placements are also finalised and families will receive their child or children’s report and class placement for 2024 on the last Monday of Term (18th December).
In the last newsletter of the year in Week 9 I will also be able to confirm any staff movements and who class teachers will be in 2024.
Next Tuesday is the Christmas Stall. Children may wear Christmas free dress on this day for a $2 donation and can bring a gift up to the day before worth around $5. Thank you to our School Association for providing this service to our students who are always very excited to come to the stall at their allocated class time and ‘shop’ for a gift for their family. This is then wrapped for them by our volunteer elves.
Last week the Grade 5s went to Molesworth, the Kingston Sports and Gymnastic centre and Blackmans Bay beach to challenge themselves in problem solving and trying new sports and activities they may not have experienced before. They reflected on their team building time at Molesworth and how they included, encouraged, listened to and supported others as this is the mark of a good team player. Next year we hope to go to Molesworth in Term 1 so the Grade 5s can build on their learning from this day and apply this to how they work with others throughout the year.
Last week the Grade 6s travelled to Dodges Ferry and enjoyed 3 days at Blue Lagoon Camp. Abseiling, archery, team games, rock climbing, beach swimming and crate climbing were among the highlights (as well as the delicious food). They were very lucky with the warm weather (unlike the weekend that followed)!
Thank you to the staff who enable these experiences to be possible for our students. On excursion days they go without a break and at camp they give up time away from their own families to ensure the best experience for our students. Thank you to the families who prepare their children to enjoy these new experiences and in doing so support their resilience, resourcefulness and self-reliance.
Kind regards,
Cathryn

Art Work Update

Grade 5 Challenge
What we did in challenge week.
On the first day we went to Molesworth and took part in challenges of all different types of teambuilding activities.
On Thursday we went to the Gymnastics centre and were taken through a series of activities, We then moved to the Sports Centre and did a couple of different sport activities like futsal, table tennis, squash and more.
And then on the final day we went to Blackmans Bay Beach where at the start we did activities like a hula hoop one and an activity where we all had to stand on a mat and turn it over without anyone standing on the ground which was really challenging and took us a couple of tries. After that we just had some time to do what we wanted on the beach like dig holes, play sports and much more. When we came back to school we relaxed, watched a movie, played Minecraft and a lot of other things.
Things we enjoyed about Challenge Week
We both liked the save Tas activity at Molesworth were we had to move together on planks of wood because you had to have good co-operation, and perfect timing, persistence and it was just really fun. And we also had surprisingly excellent communication, and we beat the rest of our group there.
What we learned.
That communication can sometimes be challenging but keep going and listen to other people’s ideas because they are sometimes the ideas that work is the quiet kid’s ideas.

Netball - Spring Roster
Some students from Illawarra Primary School participated in the Kingborough Netball Association spring Roster with one of our students Mums & Grandma coaching.
Grade 3/4 Team had three new players this season who picked up the skills of the game very quickly. The team won 7 out of the 9 games played. All girls showed a lot of improvement over the season, but importantly they were all very kind and encouraging of each other. A wonderful team.
Grade 5/6 Team also had a few new players and a new coach. The team won 5 out of 9 games in a tough competition. The team showed great improvement over the season and sometimes had to adjust to new positions due to a couple of player injuries. The team did Illawarra proud in their last season of primary school netball.

Student Achievements
A few weeks ago two students from Illawarra Primary School - Jack G & Cooper H - competed at the Tasmanian State Championships for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu(TJJC 2023). Jack took 1st place and Cooper taking 3rd place in their division. Thanks to their efforts, along with the rest of our kids team from Trojan Academy, we were able to place 1st “Best Kids Team” in the state.
Well done boys what an incrediable achievment.
