Principal Report
Dear Families,
The beautiful day for our Athletics Carnival yesterday could not have been more of a contrast to the weather the week before. The students engaged with huge enthusiasm in all of the races and novelty events and it was great to see a sea of red (Waratah), blue (Bombora) and yellow (Wattle). Thanks again to Warren Iles, our PE teacher, for providing a day in which the early childhood children can participate fully as well as primary students being able to test their limits. We also thank the Kingston High students who always help us out at all of our carnivals every year and enable the day to run smoothly. Photos from the day and a report from students is further on in the newsletter.
PAT testing concludes this week with all students taking this in their stride and we congratulate them for this. The results assist us in considering where we need to target support and improvement in teaching and learning ongoing and which students may need more individualised support or extension.
Results for our Student Well-Being survey conducted last term are in and show an increase in many areas of well-being for learning. In particular the areas of:
School climate - Overall tone of the school environment, including the way teachers and students interact and how students treat each other.
School belonging – The degree to which students feel connected to and valued at school.
Feeling safe at school and;
Emotional engagement with teachers have all shown an increase in high well-being which is very pleasing and is a reflection of our ongoing work as a school to ensure students feel listened to, the high expectations we insist on for student behaviour, the work we do on respectful relationships and social skills and the way in which we follow up on issues with understanding, compassion and discussion to build students own social-emotional capacity.
It’s hard to believe but our DISCOFEST is next Friday afternoon (10th)! Make sure you support this event by coming along to enjoy a yummy meal and relax with friends.

Athletic Carnival
On the 1st of November the Illawarra Primary School athletics carnival was held.
The whole school was decked out in their house colours and raring to start the carnival. The opening ceremony was fantastic, with dances led by Steve Sensei and Mr Iles, including the Nutbush and a Japanese warm up dance called the Radio Tiso.
The first races of the day were the Prep – Grade 2 running events, followed by Japanese athletic games or an Undokai led by grade 6 house leaders. A few of these activities were the ball toss game, the giant ball roll relay, and a chopstick relay. The Undokai was exciting and fun for all.
After recess the grade 3-6 students came out on to the oval for their events. Everyone tried their hardest to win points for their respective houses. Races over 70, 200, and 400m, and the three-legged race, as well as the 70m relays, and tug of war that occurred after lunch.
At the end of the day, everyone went home tired and excited for the results, to see which team won.
